Water Industry Specifications (WISs) are prepared by the UK Water Industry for the specification and purchase of pipeline products used in the Industry. They generally cover products for which there is no suitable European or British Standard.

Supplementary information is given in Information and Guidance Notes (IGNs). IGNs are used to provide additional guidance to a WIS or provide interpretation and additional information to European or British Standards.

Since their inception in the early 1980s, WISs and IGNs have been published by WRc plc on behalf of the Water Industry. WRc is now offering these documents as free PDF downloads and will continue to answer technical enquiries on any of the documents published. WISs and IGNs will no longer be available in hard copy.
